This low-relief is derived from a reproduction of a painting by Louis Léopold Robert. “The Arrival of the Harvesters in the Pontine Marshes” captures the moment when rural life comes to life in a vibrant tableau of colors and movement. In this scene, harvesters make their entrance, their silhouettes animated by the energy of the imminent harvest. Their simple clothing and tools are depicted with meticulous precision, bearing witness to the daily commitment of these workers in their agricultural toil.
In 1831, his triumph at the Paris Salon earned him the Legion of Honor, which was presented to him by the French king, Louis-Philippe I. The original is now exhibited at the Louvre Museum in Paris.
