Daphnis and Chloe (14 cm x 15 cm)
Dimension:
14 x 15 cm
Description:
« Daphnis et Chloé, le tireur d’épine » reproduces a painting by Louis HERSENT (1777-1860) presented at the Paris Salon in 1817.
Here is Charles Blanc ‘s description in the Larousse dictionary of the 20th century : “The painter was positively inspired by an antique statue « the thorn extractor » but he cleverly gave it a double outline associating two figures in the single motion of the original statue. Daphnis looks like a young noble Frenchman and Chloe is certainly a young Parisian blonde. Therefore that composition has been successful and will always be.”
