Portrait of Marianne, an iconic symbol of the French Republic, embodying the values of liberty, equality, and fraternity. She is often depicted in the form of a female allegorical figure, symbolizing the Republic and its ideals. This historical low-relief was created from a copper matrix made in 1870 by Michel Papon, ancestor of the Master Craftsman in Petrification.

Marianne is portrayed here crowned with a Phrygian cap, a symbol of liberty inherited from ancient Rome. On her cap appears a laurel wreath, representing glory and victory.
